A family workshop where the craft is old and the office is catching up
The work
Three generations have made the same fittings for the same kind of customer. The founder ran it from memory. The next generation wants it written down, so the business no longer depends on one person.
Where it gets hard
- Orders, stock and quotes live in one person’s head and a few spreadsheets
- Raw material runs short without warning
- Nobody can say quickly what a job really cost
What running it in one place changes
- Orders, quotes and stock are written down in one place everyone can use
- Low stock shows up before the floor runs out
- The accounts sit next to the orders that produced them
